Booking the test
What the TEF Canada and TCF Canada cost
Start from the fee of your own centre, add the sittings you expect, a second test if you need one and your travel: the total and the cost per sitting update as you type.
Total budget
$390
| Test fees | $390 |
| Per sitting | $390 |
Default fee read on the page of Alliance française d’Edmonton, TEF Canada, four tests on October 26, 2026. Each centre sets its own fee: type yours. Taxes may apply depending on the centre.
There is no single price for the TEF Canada or the TCF Canada: each test centre sets its own fee. As dated examples, read on the centres' own pages on October 26, 2026, the Alliance française d'Edmonton charged $390 for the four TEF Canada tests and $195 for listening and speaking only, the version used for citizenship, while the language centre of the Université de Sherbrooke charged $415 for the TCF Canada. Your centre may charge more or less, so type its fee in the calculator. The real budget often depends less on the fee than on the number of sittings: if one skill misses NCLC 7, you may sit again, and the TEF forbids repeating the same test within 20 days while the TCF asks 30 days between sittings. Add a second test if you also want English points, and travel if no centre is near you. Two facts can save a sitting: results stay valid for Express Entry for 2 years, and for citizenship IRCC accepts expired results. This site is independent and sells no test.

These are examples, not reference prices. The CCI says the TEF Canada fee is set by each centre, and the TEF network counts about 500 centres in more than 110 countries. Sources: the Alliance française d’Edmonton page and the Université de Sherbrooke page; centres for the TCF are listed on the France Éducation international page.
What changes the total
The calculator adds three items. The fee of your centre, multiplied by the sittings you plan (up to five). A second test, if you want points in both official languages: for Express Entry, French at NCLC 7 in all four skills with English at CLB 5 or more in all four brings a bonus of 50 points, against 25 without that English level. Travel and accommodation if the nearest centre is far, a field where you can also put any other cost, such as unpaid time off for test day. Whether a centre adds taxes or charges for rescheduling is not covered by our sources: ask the centre.
The cost of one more sitting, against the points
Our sources show no reduced price for a second sitting, so the calculator counts a full fee each time. Whether a new sitting is worth it depends on what you gain. In Express Entry, a single candidate moving from NCLC 6 to NCLC 7 in all four skills of the first official language gains 32 points, and NCLC 7 also opens the Federal Skilled Worker program and the French bonus. Moving from NCLC 9 to 10 gains 12 points. Beyond NCLC 10 a better score brings nothing more. The language points page gives the full scale, and the French bonus page explains the 25 and 50 points.
Timing a retake
A retake cannot follow at once. The CCI forbids sitting the same TEF test again within 20 days, and the TCF manual sets 30 days between two sittings. Results arrive within 1 to 10 working days for the TEF, and within 10 working days (computer) or 15 (paper) for the TCF. The results and retake page turns those rules into dates. Our suggestion: practise on the weak skill with the mock sections before paying for another sitting.
When you may not need to pay again
For Express Entry, results must be less than 2 years old when you create your profile and again when you apply for permanent residence; within that window, the same report serves. For citizenship, the IRCC page accepts expired results, so an old TEF Canada or TCF Canada can still prove NCLC 4 in listening and speaking. The validity page counts the days left on a report.
